Ensuring diverse education for sustainable development

Sustainable development consists of various concepts such as energy, economy, environment and human well-being. We focus on well-being, especially ensuring diversity in education. Diverse education brings about expanding the possibility and promoting the special ability of children.
In Japan, children are usually evaluated based on the perspective of standardized education, and this situation ignores the children’s individuality. In addition, it makes it difficult for children to enhance their potential. However, not only Japan but also several countries have the same problem because it is related to each sociocultural context. Standardization gives children limited education. All children cannot be covered by it because each child has not only weaknesses but also strengths. If children who aren’t satisfied with this education give up engaging in their education, they will lose the possibilities to show their abilities. Therefore, it is important to offer their suitable education.
We suggest a new education system which is combined general and diverse education. Innovation the new education system promotes the growth of children’s personalities and talents while ensuring the basic education. As a leader of the next generation, we should reform a society to accept and support the new education system.
